Abstract: overview of my project:

Aphasia is a common language disorder that can be caused by various brain disorders. It consists of several types and it can have serious consequences. For example, it affects your daily functioning (job,...). Brain hemorrhage is one of the most common causes of aphasia. This study focuses on the relationship between having a brain hemorrhage and affected speech (aphasia).

Based on my online research, I concluded that a brain hemorrhage usually causes Broca's aphasia. I also noted that each brain hemorrhage is different for each person. This means that each person needs a different method of diagnosis and recovery. Through a conversation with a speech therapist, I concluded that a prompt and personalized treatment is very important throughout the healing process. As much language as possible should be elicited in the first 6 months to achieve a successful recovery.

Through my research and my conversations, I came to the realization that there is not much public knowledge on the subject. People that have not experienced it, or are not in the medical field have limited knowledge about it. Since twenty Belgians are diagnosed with aphasia every day, I want to raise public awareness through this study.
